[ARCHIVED] Severe Weather Alert for Today, Dec. 15th, 2021

The National Weather Service held a webinar this morning regarding the high risk weather event today. Attached are the Webinar slides.

A potent storm system will impact MN/WI with multiple hazards - severe weather risk, strong winds, minor snow accumulation, record warmth to sub-freezing temperatures - Wednesday through Wednesday night. Details are in this afternoon's Decision Support Packet.

The main risks are high wind gusts up to 75 MPH throughout the evening and overnight. NWS anticipates chances of Wind Gusts up to 80 MPH in any Severe Storms that occur in and around St Croix County. These storms are anticipated to be around St Croix County 1800-2100hrs tonight. NWS estimates about .5 inches (1/2 inch) of rain without storms but expect more rain if you encounter a Thunderstorm of course. The melting snow and rain fall could lead to ponding/standing water.

The winds will continue overnight with a potential for a  “Flash Freeze” in St Croix County approximately 0100hrs freezing all water on roads, trees and powerlines. This has the possibility to add more complications if any have occurred thus far.
