[ARCHIVED] 2nd St/Hwy 35 Update

2nd St Hwy 25 Logo

I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Halloween weekend! We have crossed into November, and temperatures will be further decreasing this week. The project will be making progress this week even with the colder temperatures. Here is what to expect coming up:

  • The contractor will be pouring some median islands at St Croix Street as well as finishing up some other activities between Vine and St Croix Streets this week. In order to provide some extra space for this work, traffic will be shifted back to 3rd Street between Vine Street and River Street on either Tuesday or Wednesday lasting for 1-2 days.
  • Storm sewer is being installed on the east side of 2nd Street between North Street and Division Street this week. If all goes well, the storm sewer should be finished up within the next few days.
  • Following storm sewer installation will be grading between the Lake Mallalieu bridge and Division Street on the east side of the street. This will hopefully be done late this week.
  • The current plan is to pour concrete pavement between Lake Mallalieu and Division Street this Saturday to take advantage of better temperatures next weekend.
  • Traffic is anticipated to be switched onto Highway 35 north of the Lake Mallalieu bridge late this week or early next week. The contractor is currently working on finishing the curb & gutter and switching the stoplights to accommodate this change.

We have been fielding a lot of questions and concerns regarding the status of construction and the weather turning colder. The top priority for the project is to get the roadway construction completed so that two-way traffic is safely restored on Highway 35. The next priority would be to finish the east side sidewalk between Division Street and Lake Mallalieu. The following priority would be finishing restoration and replacing catwalks between Division Street and Vine Street. Anything not completed this fall will be completed in the spring.

According to the current schedule, access to the Lake Mallalieu boat launch will be restored sometime the week of November 15th. This schedule is highly dependent on weather conditions.
